NEW COMPANY LAW SOON: SALMAN KHURSHID

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Corporate Affairs and Minority Affairs, Shri Salman Khurshid has said that a new state-of-the-art Company Law has already been cleared by the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry and all efforts will be made to pass it by the Parliament within this financial year and if possible in the winter session itself. He was addressing at an interactive meeting on 'Company Law and Corporate Governance' organized by the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Kolkata today. Shri Khurshid called upon Kolkata based industrialists to once again take the leadership role to reap the benefit of the government's 'Look East' policy. "Challenges will continue and we must be prepared to turn every challenge into an opportunity", the Minister said.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri R. Bandopadhyay, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs said that the ministry basically wants to bring changes to corporate governance and corporate social responsibility and thus ensure many peoples' participation in corporate activities. The Secretary informed that the ministry has started an Investor Education Programme which this year has witnessed a 10 times increase over last year's participation He rued the fact that in this part of the nation there is generally an aversion amongst people to become investors. In this connection, Shri Bandopadhyay called upon the Chamber members to form a congenial atmosphere for corporate development. He reminded that even in the recession period, India succeeded to maintain 6.5% growth rate. You have to have a positive outlook, he iterated.
