At least a dozen Dalit houses were allegedly ransacked and looted by caste Hindus at Thamaraikulam in Thiruchuzhi circle coming under A. Mukkulam police station limits in Virudhunagar district on Sunday. Armed with sticks and sharp weapons, caste Hindus of the village are said to have entered the Dalit Colony and attacked men, women and children. They are alleged to have brought down the tiled roof of houses and stolen valuables, including jewellery.
Flagpoles of Vidhuthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam were cut down. The attack took place for more than an hour and was brought under control by A. Mukkalam police. The starting point of the trouble was the posters put up by members of VCK which was reportedly opposed by caste Hindus of Thatchanenthal and Thamaraikulam.
Meanwhile, some persons had allegedly defaced the posters of Thol.
Thirumavalavan against which VCK lodged a complaint at A. Mukkulam police station, where representatives of both groups were called and a peace meeting was held.
Following this, trouble was brewing between the youth of the two groups. The house of M. Rajendran, vice-president of Thamaraikulam panchayat, a Dalit, was said to have been fully damaged in the attack.

Cases have been registeredagainst 46 caste hindus in the district here for allegedlyattacking dalits and ransacking their houses in Tamaraikulamarea, police said today.
The incident, in which 10 dalits were injured, took placeyesterday in Tiruchuzhi Block, following a dispute over theerection of flag posts of dalit-outfit Viduthalai ChiruthaigalKatchi (VCK), police said.
Caste hindus attacked dalits, including women andchildren, ransacked houses and took away valuables includingsome jewellery, they said, adding the houses damaged in theincident included that of the Tamaraikulam MunicipalVice-President.
