Did You Know Feds Will Temporarily Cut Off All TV and Radio Broadcasts on Nov. 9? Posted: 28 Oct 2011 05:08 AM PDT If you have ever wondered about the government's ability to control the civilian airwaves, you will have your answer on November 9th. On that day, federal authorities are going to shut off all television and radio communications simultaneously at 2:00PM EST to complete the first ever test of the national Emergency Alert System (EAS). |

Final Warning To All Investors: Prepare For The Coming Bank Collapse Posted: 28 Oct 2011 04:22 AM PDT Worst-case scenario's closing fast: Occupy Wall Street growing. But no political power or allies yet. Feared yes, attacked by GOP proxy tea party. Soon the Occupation will explode into a new American Revolution. When? A string of European bank collapses is dead ahead. And like the Arab Spring, they will trigger an economic disaster for American banks. |
Mounting crisis: one-third of Thailand now under water Posted: 28 Oct 2011 04:00 AM PDT Thailand announced a five-day holiday on Tuesday to give people the chance to escape floods closing in on Bangkok as authorities ordered the evacuation of a housing estate on the outskirts of the city after a protective wall gave way. The cabinet declared October 27-31 a holiday in Bangkok and 20 provinces affected by the country's worst flooding in 50 years as weekend high tides in the Gulf of Thailand could complicate efforts to divert water away from the low-lying capital. |
Ten Ways You Can Screw Up Your Life Posted: 28 Oct 2011 03:09 AM PDT Sometimes it's tough having your eyes wide open while nearly everybody around you remains fast asleep. Like the protagonist in the classic H.G. Wells story, "The Country of the Blind," instead of becoming the king, you find yourself to be a social outcast, especially if you try to tell the truth to those unwilling to hear it. So you go through every day as if in a trance—while friends, colleagues and perhaps even family members make plans that you know are going to lead them to grief in the long run. But you remain mum. After all, however addicted to the truth you might be, you don't want to become that pariah who claims to see while everyone else is blind. |
Posted: 28 Oct 2011 02:41 AM PDT On Monday, at around 2 p.m. ET, a coronal mass ejection (CME) slammed into the Earth's magnetosphere. According to NASA's Space Weather Laboratory, the conditions were just right for the CME's magnetic field to compress the Earth's magnetosphere so much that, for a short time (between 3:06 p.m and 3:11 p.m. ET), energetic solar wind particles penetrated as deep as geosynchronous orbit -- home to hundreds of communication satellites. |
Posted: 28 Oct 2011 02:27 AM PDT In recent times there's been a resurgence of interest in airships for military and commercial uses as evidenced by Lockheed Martin's High Altitude Long Endurance-Demonstrator (HALE-D) and Hybrid Air Vehicles heavy-lift variant of Northrop Grumman's Long-Endurance Multi-Intelligence Vehicle (LEMV). Like HAV's design, this concept from Canadian company Solar Ship is a hybrid airship that relies on aerodynamics to help provide lift, and like the HALE-D, it would have its top surface area covered in solar cells to provide energy and minimize its carbon footprint.
