Celebrate Black History Month with advocacy for pro-democracy protests in Egypt, etc.. Alerts that can be used for talking points, done, etc..:

Voters For Peace:

Dear Political Representatives,

The events in Egypt show the urgent need for a re-evaluation of U.S. foreign policy, particularly in the Middle East.

Current policy is undermining U.S. national security by creating new enemies, exhausting the U.S. military and destroying respect for America around the world. It is undermining the U.S. economy by adding hundreds of billions to the deficit and creating trillions of dollars in future expenses to care for casualties of the wars. For more on how U.S. foreign policy is hurting the United States see Wake Up Call for U.S. Empire: Egypt an Opportunity for a Transformational New Beginning -

http://votersforpeace.us/press/index.php?itemid=4664

Your speech, "A New Beginning," to the Arab and Muslim world in 2009 used lofty rhetoric that promised a change in direction in U.S. foreign policy. Unfortunately since you have been in office you have produced record weapons and war budgets, record intelligence budgets and record arms sales.

Indeed, you negotiated the largest arms sale in history to Saudi Arabia. This country, like Egypt, is autocratic and often abusive of its people. There is a strong undercurrent in Saudi Arabia that opposes the unelected royal regime. As with Egypt the U.S. is not on the side of democracy, not on the side of the people but on the side of an unelected government. And, as with Egypt, the government is not as stable as it seems.

Please recognize the need for a dramatic shift in U.S. policy. Your predecessor failed to heed the warning of the 9/11 attack even though those accused of making it made their concerns clear. They wanted U.S. military bases out of the region, wanted the U.S. to stop its one-sided support for Israel and they wanted the U.S. to stop supporting unelected autocrats.

Failure to heed the warning of Egypt will ensure opposition to the United States in a region that is undergoing rapid change. Now, it the time for a new beginning.

Sincerely,

Dear Editor,

After 30 years of corruption, violence, repression and torture the Egyptian people have said enough. USA citizens have had enough, as well, we do not want my tax money going to support repression and corruption. It is past time for President Obama to tell Hosni Mubarak that the USA will stop sending money to Egypt if he does not step down, and allow a peaceful transition to a more open and democratically elected Gov`t. After almost nine years of war and occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan, it seems that peaceful protest is what actually works to promote democracy; not unnecessary wars to steal astronomically increased USA taxpayer`s dollars by the republican conspiracy- through their domination of industrial complexes, like military and intelligence. Enough is enough, now.

Matutinally Yours,
