Prevent conflicts by not spreading Rumours
A Press Release by DCPF
The recent kidnapping and brutal killing of young Gobin Tisso on 24th April, an auto driver is a blot on the peaceful aspirations of the people of Karbi Anglong. It may be mentioned that last month an young person was missing from Diphu town and his dead body was found later near an educational institution. The motive behind these crimes seems to be same, to sensationalize murder, create mistrust and suspicion and thus give rise to greater level of conflicts and violence.
There are also continuous reporting of the incident in the media which is continuously sensationalizing the incident from various points of view, interestingly no official explanation or follow up of the case is reported and this makes the situation more murkier everyday.
Impunity for murder and crimes in Karbi Anglong is not an unknown fact, however this trend is a dangerous situation which can happen only in an anarchy or emergency. The civil society groups and peace loving people of Karbi Anglong should be aware of the fact that we cannot be mere spectators of what is happening. The official law enforcing organs of our district and the ruling governments needs to share the whole picture with the public on an emergency footing to prevent further rumors and sensationalization of the crimes.
The inherent resilience of our people in Karbi Anglong with different cultures, religions and languages remained inviolate despite the worst happenings in the past. The wonderful open-mindedness which enabled all to find a place in the spirit of peace, love, hospitality ,respect which characterized our society for years has woven a vast and diverse mosaic. If we are not to fritter away these gains of years for which others yearn all over the world, we must nip in the bud any threat to our social fabric and nurture vigorously our spirit of ethnic harmony and a crime free society.
Any more civil disturbance would further weaken our region and there would be groups who will take advantage of such weaknesses and differences for their own purposes. In the past most incidents of violence were provoked by a handful of persons or perhaps by a single person. And we should and shall prevail such motives of our people to bank on crimes and violence.
