Government confirms Army secret report on 'undesirable activities' in Gen V K Singh's 'rogue' unit
Meanwhile, the UPA government has said that it has taken cognizance of the army inquiry report.Reacting to The Indian Express story on the findings of an army panel into the dubious workings of a secret intelligence unit set up by former Army Chief Gen V K Singh, the government has said that 'it has in place measures to prevent any such undesirable activities.'

The Defence Ministry confirmed the IE story, saying that it has 'received a report from the Army HQ on certain issues relating to one of its 'outfits' as reported by a section of the media'. "The report impinges on matters of national security and, as such, the government will take a decision and further actions after a careful examination of the report," Defence Ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar said. The govt also said it is yet to take a call on ordering a CBI inquiry. "It is further clarified that MoD has not taken any decision for a CBI inquiry into the issues raised in the Army's Report," Kar said.

Meanwhile, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said that the government has taken cognizance of the army inquiry report which found that a military intelligence unit set up by former army chief General V K Singh in 2010 misused funds for various purposes, including to try to topple the Omar Abdullah government in Jammu and Kashmir. The Left parties too demanded action.

"The content of the report which appeared in a newspaper today are under the active consideration of the government and if at all any malfeasance against any serving or retired officers is found, appropriate action would be initiated by the government. The government has also put in place measures to enure that there should never ever be a repeat of some of the things alleged in the report," Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari told reporters
